Project Home Repair is a community-driven initiative focused on restoring safety, stability, and dignity for homeowners in need across Ocean County. By uniting local nonprofits and service organizations, the program tackles urgent home repair challenges faced by seniors, veterans, and vulnerable residents.

Launched in July 2023 through the efforts of Causeway CARes, Project Home Repair has quickly become a vital resource in the region. The initiative brings together partners such as Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity, Homes for All, Southern Ocean Habitat for Humanity, and Starve Poverty International, all working collaboratively to meet the growing demand for essential repairs and accessibility improvements. Since its launch, Project Home Repair has completed 34 critical home repairs totaling more than $331,000 in support for local families and homeowners.

Founded by Dave C. Wintrode, President of the Causeway Family of Dealerships and Causeway CARes, the coalition was created to close critical gaps in support services—ensuring that individuals living in difficult conditions have access to safe, secure, and livable homes.

Over the past year, Project Home Repair has continued to make a meaningful impact across Ocean County, transforming houses into safer, more stable homes through a series of critical repair projects. Thanks to the collaboration between nonprofit partners and the dedication of volunteers, families facing difficult circumstances have been able to remain in the homes they love.

One recent project in Forked River highlights just how impactful this work can be. A local mother of two had been living with a roof more than 25 years old that was actively leaking into the attic. The condition of the roof not only threatened the safety of her home but also drove up her homeowner’s insurance costs. After reaching out to Starve Poverty for help, Project Home Repair stepped in to provide nearly $24,000 in funding to support a full roof replacement. Completed in April 2026, the project addressed extensive rot and structural issues caused by years of wear and multiple home additions, restoring both safety and peace of mind for the family.

In Barnegat, a longtime couple has worked alongside Starve Poverty on multiple repairs over the years, demonstrating how these projects often evolve into ongoing relationships. After first receiving help with roof repairs, they later sought assistance with a deteriorating kitchen floor. Volunteers stepped in to replace the subfloor and install new flooring ahead of Thanksgiving 2025. When another issue arose in their hallway just months later, the same collaborative effort ensured the repairs were completed by April 2026. Their story reflects a broader trend. Many families who come through one program, such as the food pantry, often find additional support through home repair services, creating a vital pathway to stability.

Another Barnegat homeowner initially reached out over what seemed like a minor electrical issue, but the situation quickly revealed more serious underlying problems. Water intrusion from a window and damaged exterior components had led to structural deterioration, while additional electrical concerns needed to be addressed before a new heating and cooling system could be installed. With materials provided by the homeowner and a team of dedicated volunteers completing the work, repairs included window replacement, structural restoration, electrical fixes, and exterior improvements. By the project’s completion, the home was not only safer but ready for critical system upgrades that will improve year round comfort.

Homes for All also completed a life changing project for Joanne and Stephen, who have spent more than 40 years in their Lanoka Harbor home. As both undergo cancer treatments, the financial strain of medical bills left them increasingly concerned about worsening roof leaks and the possibility of losing their home. Through Project Home Repair, their roof was fully replaced, eliminating the immediate risk and allowing them to focus on their health without the constant fear of displacement. “The team was amazing,” shared Joanne. “We were worried we might lose our home, but now we feel safe and protected. It’s hard to describe how much this means to us, especially while focusing on our health. Thank you for giving us hope and keeping us in the home we love.”

Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity has also played a key role in delivering comprehensive repairs for local residents. In Pine Ridge South, Gail and her son Donald received critical upgrades that included a new roof, window replacements, updated flooring, and ceiling repairs. These improvements not only stabilized the home but also enhanced Donald’s health by removing old carpeting that aggravated his asthma. For Gail, the repairs brought relief from the fear of structural failure and allowed them to continue living together comfortably.

In another project, Geraldine, who has lived in her Pine Ridge at Crestwood home since 1999, received essential accessibility upgrades that will help her safely age in place. Improvements included a tub to shower conversion, new steps, window replacements, and other critical repairs. With a strong support system of family nearby, these updates ensure she can continue to live independently while enjoying the comfort and familiarity of her home.

Each of these stories reflects the core mission of Project Home Repair, bringing together resources, expertise, and compassion to meet the growing need for critical home repairs in Ocean County. Through strong partnerships and community support, the program continues to change lives, one home at a time.

As communities across the country recognize April as Autism Awareness Month, there is no better time to spotlight Ocean Partnership for Children (OPC), an organization working tirelessly to support individuals and families navigating Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Serving all of Ocean County, OPC stands at the forefront of quietly and consistently transforming lives for youth and families, through an individualized, collaborative, holistic approach to services and treatment. Services rendered are offered at no cost to families when youth are in need, with neither insurance coverage nor income posing barriers to assistance.

On average, OPC serves more than 1,100 youth daily across all of Ocean County: assisting youth facing mental health, substance use, legal involvement, and/or behavioral health needs. Within that population, approximately 20% are youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), the majority of whom have an autism diagnosis.

Behind these numbers are real children, teens, young adults, and families navigating complex systems, complicated insurances and services, seeking understanding, and working toward stability and success. OPC’s role is not just to provide services. but to ensure no one is left to face these challenges alone.

Central to this work are dedicated Care Management teams focused specifically on supporting young people with I/DD needs, managed by Director Alyssa Christman and I/DD Supervisors Melinda Santiago-Owens, Sean Giarratana, and Jessica Perez. These specialized teams are comprised of professionals who bring not only compassion, but deep expertise in the disability field.

Staff members are certified in Developmental Disabilities through Rutgers University, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the unique and evolving needs of this population. This level of training ensures that families receive informed guidance, individualized care planning, and advocacy rooted in best practices.

What truly sets OPC apart is its ability to listen: to families, to youth, and to the community. Consistently seeking feedback, OPC responds with innovative, meaningful solutions. Over the years, OPC has identified persistent gaps in services and access, particularly for individuals with developmental disabilities. Rather than accepting these gaps as unavoidable, the organization has taken action to bring necessary solutions to the county.

In 2020, OPC created a groundbreaking I/DD Specialist position to address one of the most significant barriers individuals with I/DD needs and their families face: navigating the state’s eligibility systems. Applying for and securing Developmental Disabilities (DD) Eligibility for youth under 21 or Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) eligibility for individuals over 21, can be a lengthy, confusing, and often overwhelming process.

The paperwork is extensive, the requirements are strict, and delays can leave families without critical services. Often, mandatory evaluations and testing can be difficult to acquire, with insurance coverage barriers, high deductibles and costs, and long waitlists.

The I/DD Specialist was designed to change that experience. Serving as both a guide and an advocate, this role supports individuals and families throughout the entire application process; from gathering documentation, completing submissions, following up with state agencies or just providing guidance on how to access the online portal. In calendar year 2025, the I/DD Specialist served 483 individuals, each at a different stage of the eligibility journey.

When asked about the benefits of this position, Santiago-Owens, who also supervises this position, stated, “The benefit is having someone sit with you, listen, and help navigate a world that is not made to understand. She [Corie Hometchko, I/DD Specialist] helps explain “the why” that a lot of people never take the time to discuss.”

As impactful as this role has been, OPC’s commitment to innovation did not stop there.

In 2021, as communities emerged from a period of unprecedented isolation brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, OPC recognized another urgent need. Many youth with special needs had experienced heightened isolation, disrupted routines, and increased anxiety. Opportunities for socialization had become limited or nonexistent.

Two OPC staff members, Liz Menges and Jess Pepe developed a social, emotional and physical wellness curriculum in response to the Ocean County Department of Human Services’ county-wide request for proposals to formulate a hybrid program for youth with disabilities.

OPC launched Connections, a program specifically designed to support individuals with special needs who were struggling with isolation and social barriers. What began as a targeted initiative quickly grew into a vital community resource.

Connections provides a safe, inclusive space where youth can build relationships, develop social skills, and engage in meaningful activities. Through structured group sessions, recreational opportunities, and peer interaction, participants are encouraged to step out of seclusion and into connection, in a way that feels comfortable and empowering.

Over time, the program has evolved to meet the changing needs of its participants. The year-long program meets twice a month and focuses each session on one or more of four pillars: emotional wellness, social wellness, physical health and caregiver/family connection.

Now entering its fourth year as a grant-funded program, Connections continues to expand its reach and impact, with Pepe and Kelly Joseph as Lead Facilitators. Sessions throughout the year include community partnership days (i.e. A visit from Insectropolis, financial literacy with OceanFirst Bank, or lessons from a local dental hygienist), family nights (i.e. BBQ at Ocean County Youth Center or Family Night at the Jersey Shore BlueClaws), and a pen pal program to focus on conversational skills and empathy.

The year cumulates with a special Connections Gala to celebrate the youth and their families in the program. Joseph states, “I love getting to see the growth being made without the youth even realizing it. And the fact that the group really lives up to its name in allowing the youth to make Connections in a safe, fun environment that’s just for them is so important.”

Families report not only improved social engagement among participants, but also increased confidence, independence, and overall well-being.

A parent reported during a recent anonymous survey, “It’s a great opportunity for [my son] to get out of the house and socialize with individuals in similar situations. I feel this is a very generous group. My wife and I are very satisfied – thank you to the folks that put all the effort in to keep the program running.”

A youth attending group reported, “”I like coming to Connections and riding here in the car,” while another wrote, “I feel good about [coming to group] and the pizza. I like to help other friends.”

The success of Connections and the I/DD Specialist are testaments to OPC’s ability to adapt and grow alongside the community it serves. It reflects a broader philosophy that defines the organization’s work: services should not be static, they should evolve in response to real needs, real challenges, and real lives.

While some parents and caregivers may be daydreaming of their golden years in retirement someday, parents and caregivers of those with special needs are planning for life-long services, supportive and assisted housing options, and navigating complexities that are trusts, applications, guardianship, and other winding roadways in a complex legal landscape.

For the families they serve, OPC is more than a service provider. OPC is a partner, an advocate, and a source of hope. And, for the community at large, it is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when compassion meets action.

During Autism Awareness Month, and year-round, it’s essential to move beyond awareness alone and toward true understanding, acceptance, and inclusion. Organizations like Ocean Partnership for Children exemplify this by pairing compassion with action, innovation, and commitment.

As we recognize this month, we celebrate both the individuals and families impacted by autism and the dedicated work happening every day in Ocean County to support them.

The grand opening of the new ShopRite in Manahawkin marks more than just the arrival of a state of the art grocery store for our community. It represents the continuation of a decades long commitment to fighting hunger and supporting local families in need.

For years, ShopRite, through both Saker ShopRites and Wakefern Food Corporation, has been a dedicated partner of Fulfill, the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Fulfill works tirelessly to alleviate hunger and build food security by supplying more than 300 food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters, while also connecting families to essential resources that promote long term stability.

Saker ShopRites have supported Fulfill since 2010, contributing more than $425,000 in lifetime giving. Their generosity has helped fund major initiatives, including the establishment of Fulfill’s BEAT Center and the current Path to Plenty Warehouse Expansion. These projects were designed to increase capacity and better serve neighbors facing food insecurity. In 2011, Richard and Laura Saker were honored with Fulfill’s annual Humanitarian Award in recognition of their leadership and dedication.

Beyond individual store contributions, Wakefern Food Corporation, the cooperative of which all Saker ShopRite stores are members, has provided more than $6.7 million in charitable support to Fulfill since 1999. Much of this support comes through Wakefern’s Partners in Caring program, the annual Check Out Hunger campaign that engages customers at the register, and direct grants that help sustain Fulfill’s critical programming.

The opening of the Manahawkin ShopRite reinforces this powerful partnership between business and community. As Fulfill continues its mission to end hunger in Monmouth and Ocean Counties, strong corporate partners like ShopRite and Wakefern remain essential to expanding impact and reaching more families in need.

At The Causeway Family of Dealerships, supporting local nonprofits is at the heart of what we do. With Marketing Director Joe Stroffolino proudly serving as the Vice-Chair of Fulfill’s Board of Trustees, this partnership is especially meaningful to our organization. Seeing community focused businesses like ShopRite invest in hunger relief aligns perfectly with our mission to give back and strengthen the communities we serve.

The new ShopRite in Manahawkin is not just a place to shop. It is part of a larger network of generosity, collaboration, and shared responsibility. Together, through partnerships like these, we are building a stronger and more food secure future for our neighbors.

JBJ Soul Kitchen is a nonprofit community restaurant operated by the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. Since we opened in 2025, we have served almost 235,000 meals through our unique Pay-It-Forward model, where we encourage our guests to make a suggested donation for their meal. We welcome those unable to donate to enjoy a meal by volunteering, which fosters a sense of empowerment and dignity. In 2025, 75% of the meals we served at our Red Bank location went to guests experiencing food insecurity.

With the addition of our new truck, we can continue our community outreach while also delivering hot meals to those in need. This donation greatly strengthens our outreach and catering efforts in Monmouth County to combat food insecurity, and we are deeply grateful to Causeway Cares for their generous support.

This will be our second truck donated from Causeway Cares. Last year, they generously provided a truck for our Toms River location, which has been a wonderful addition for our team. It has made picking up groceries and delivering meals to warming centers in Ocean County during Code Blue season much more efficient. It has also allowed us to serve more people in need, enabling us to make an even greater impact in our community.

“Every day, I see how a warm, nutritious meal can restore a sense of dignity and connection. This generous donation allows me and my team to reach more people and meet our neighbors where they are. By expanding beyond our restaurant, we can continue showing up when our community needs us most. This donation is a game changer for our outreach in Monmouth County, and I am deeply grateful to Causeway Cares for their compassion and support.” said Nicole, Program Manager at JBJ Soul Kitchen.

On behalf of our Board and everyone at the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, we would like to sincerely thank Causeway Cares for once again supporting JBJ Soul Kitchen with this generous donation, which will help us continue our mission.

Here’s a look back at some of our favorite moments from 2025

January 2025:
In a heartwarming display of community collaboration, JBJ Soul Kitchen, a nonprofit community restaurant operated by the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, was selected as the recipient of our “CauseWheels” vehicle donation. This generous gift, made possible by Meals on Wheels, the Causeway Family of Dealerships, and Causeway CARes, helped empower the organization by providing essential transportation support.

February:
Causeway CARes is dedicated to making a lasting impact in the community, and its latest act of generosity is helping to drive real change. Causeway CARes and the Causeway Family of Dealerships donated a vehicle to Sea Change Recovery Community Organization (Sea Change) a nonprofit organization committed to providing recovery support, harm reduction services, and outreach to individuals facing significant challenges.

March:
Causeway Family of Dealerships and Causeway CARes recently hosted the 6th Annual Summer in Winter Carnival, an event that continues to unite nonprofit and community organizations from across Ocean County. Held at The Mainland Kitchen & Pub in Manahawkin, this year’s carnival welcomed 33 nonprofit and community groups dedicated to making a difference in the region.

May:
Fulfill hosted its third annual Shore to Rock Hunger gala on May 8 at Baseline Social in Oceanport, bringing together supporters from across Monmouth and Ocean Counties to raise awareness and funds in the fight against hunger. The evening featured live entertainment by the Kings of Disco, former members of the Village People, and honored four partners for their outstanding contributions to hunger relief. The event highlighted the growing need in the community, as more than 110,000 local residents now rely on Fulfill and its network of food pantries, a number that has doubled since before the pandemic.

June:
Meals on Wheels of Ocean County has a history of resilience, serving the community for over 50 years and proving its value during times of crisis. For example, when Superstorm Sandy disabled their kitchens, they partnered with a local restaurant and missed only two days of delivery, and during Covid-19, partner organizations utilized MOWOC to deliver essential items to the homebound.

The demand for their services has skyrocketed in recent years; just ten years ago, MOWOC received 20-30 referrals per month, whereas today, they receive 20-30 referrals every week, highlighting the growing need among the more than 200,000 seniors in Ocean County. MOWOC can serve a senior for an entire year for roughly the cost of one day in the hospital or eight days in a nursing home.MOWOC depends heavily on the generosity of the community through donations to “Pick Up The Tab” and ensure that no senior is ever denied a meal due to inability to afford a contribution.

August:
The countdown was on for the 8th Annual Causeway CARes 5K! We brought the community together once again to support local nonprofits, and we were excited to announce the recipients: Fulfill, Project Home Repair, and Meals on Wheels of Ocean County. Over the past seven years, the event had raised more than $305,000 for organizations addressing food insecurity, housing safety, and senior support, with a goal to surpass previous fundraising totals in 2025 that was met.

September:
Causeway CARes proudly donated a reconditioned vehicle to Scouting America’s Jersey Shore Council to help expand youth programs and community outreach across the region. The truck, originally part of the Meals on Wheels of Ocean County fleet, continues a meaningful cycle of service as Meals on Wheels donates retired vehicles to Causeway CARes for refurbishment and redistribution, marking its 20th such donation.

Now supporting Scouting operations at the Joseph A. Citta Scout Reservation, the vehicle will be used to transport gear, support camps, and strengthen outreach efforts, helping remove barriers to participation and connect more families with Scouting. This partnership honors a shared commitment to community, youth development, and service, ensuring the vehicle’s impact continues in new and lasting ways across the Jersey Shore.

October:
Despite severe weather forcing the cancellation of the 8th Annual Causeway CARes 5K, the event still achieved a record-breaking milestone, raising more than $100,000 for the first time in its history. Made possible by the generosity of sponsors, registered participants, and community supporters, including Premier Sponsor La Jarochita, the cancelled race delivered an even bigger impact than expected. Proceeds were split evenly among three local nonprofits, with each organization receiving $33,400 to support essential services throughout the Jersey Shore.

This year’s beneficiaries include Fulfill, which continues to fight hunger while expanding its Neptune headquarters; Project Home Repair, which helps seniors, veterans, and families remain safely in their homes; and Meals on Wheels of Ocean County, which provides nutritious meals and critical support to local seniors. Causeway CARes and the Causeway Family of Dealerships extend sincere thanks to all sponsors and supporters, for turning an unexpected challenge into a powerful demonstration of community compassion and generosity.

November:
Causeway CARes hosted its Holiday Food Drive benefiting Fulfill NJ in response to the SNAP benefits crisis and rising food insecurity across Monmouth and Ocean Counties. From November 12 through December 18, all Causeway Family of Dealerships showrooms collected non-perishable food donations to support local families, seniors, and individuals in need. Fulfill NJ, which distributes more than 13 million meals annually, faced increased demand as gaps in federal assistance strained food bank resources, making community support especially critical during the holiday season.

As part of the initiative, Causeway CARes also held a Holiday Giveaway to encourage community participation. Donors received one entry for every bag of food donated, with no limit on entries, while vehicle purchases during Black Friday weekend earned bonus entries. Each Causeway showroom awarded its own prize, including a Dyson vacuum, Ooni pizza oven, Ninja Creami XL, and Yeti cooler, with winners announced December 19. Through this effort, Causeway CARes helped bridge the food gap while spreading generosity across the Jersey Shore.

SNAP Benefits Crisis Triggers Immediate Need for Community Action

The holiday season is about giving back, especially as many local families face new challenges brought on by the SNAP benefits crisis. This year, Causeway CARes is once again inviting the community to step up and help fight hunger through its annual Holiday Food Drive benefiting Fulfill NJ, our local food bank serving Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

Starting November 12th, all Causeway Family of Dealerships showrooms will begin collecting non-perishable food items to support neighbors who are struggling to put meals on the table.

For more than 40 years, Fulfill NJ — formerly known as The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties — has been dedicated to ending hunger and building hope. The organization distributes over 13 million meals each year through a network of pantries and community partners, providing vital food and resources to families, seniors, and individuals facing food insecurity.

“We’re proud to support Fulfill once again,” said Joe Stroffolino, Director of Advertising and Marketing for Causeway Family of Dealerships and Vice-Chair of Fulfill’s Board of Trustees. “Their impact is felt right here in our community, and this time of year, every donation truly makes a difference.”

Fulfill President and CEO Triada Stampas recently underscored the urgency of the situation:

“We estimate about 4.3 million meals that SNAP households will not be able to purchase until their benefits arrive. That means Fulfill would need to more than triple our normal distribution to fill that gap.”

[Update:] Since that statement, there has been a glimmer of relief for many local families.

“On Friday, November 7th, thanks to the action of our state in response to a federal court order, full SNAP benefits have been issued for November, and 90,000 of our Monmouth and Ocean County neighbors have gotten some breathing room at last. Tonight, they can finally stock their fridges and pantries,” Stampas shared.

However, she cautioned that the challenges are far from over:

“The harm of this federal shutdown continues. Federal employees and contractors are going unpaid. In the next two weeks, December SNAP benefits should be scheduled, but the USDA’s reserve fund is now depleted. And because ensuring a steady supply of commodity foods for food banks is not considered an essential government function, the USDA has not made a single new TEFAP order in almost six weeks — creating the risk of a major gap in our food supply.”

The Causeway Holiday Food Drive runs from November 12th through December 18th, helping bridge that gap for families across the Jersey Shore.

How to Get Involved

1. Drop Off Food Donations
Bring a bag of non-perishable food items to any Causeway showroom and receive one entry into our Holiday Giveaway.

2. Purchase a Vehicle on November 28th or 29th
Anyone who buys a new or pre-owned vehicle during Black Friday weekend will receive 10 Holiday Giveaway entries!

3. Multiple Prizes, Multiple Winners
Each showroom will feature its own giveaway prize, with winners announced December 19th, just in time for the holidays!

MANAHAWKIN, NJ – Although the weather had other plans this year, the 8th Annual Causeway CARes 5K, presented by Causeway Family of Dealerships and Causeway CARes, still made an incredible impact on the community. “For the first time in 8 years, we had to make the very difficult decision to cancel the 5k event. Our main concern was participant safety on the course, as well as traveling to the race site itself” said Joe Stroffolino, Race Director. “Despite the event being canceled, the Causeway team, sponsors, registered participants and supporters helped raise over $100,000, marking the first time the event has broken six figures” Stroffolino added.

This year’s proceeds will benefit three impactful nonprofit organizations: Fulfill, Project Home Repair, and Meals on Wheels of Ocean County. Each organization received a check for $33,400 to further their missions of providing food security, supporting seniors, and ensuring safe, stable housing for local families in need.

“Even though we couldn’t run this year, the spirit of giving that defines our community was stronger than ever,” said David C. Wintrode, President of Causeway Family of Dealerships and Causeway CARes. “We’re proud to continue supporting organizations that directly improve the lives of our neighbors. It’s an honor to be part of something that makes a lasting difference.”

Fulfill continues its important work to alleviate hunger and build food security for families across Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The organization distributes millions of pounds of food annually through its network of community partners, while also providing essential programs such as nutrition education, job training, and financial counseling. This year’s donation will support Fulfill’s efforts to expand its Neptune headquarters, allowing for increased storage capacity and improved delivery of healthy food options to those in need.

Project Home Repair is a collaboration between Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity, Southern Ocean Habitat for Humanity, and Starve Poverty International. Together, these organizations help local residents in need by providing essential home repairs, accessibility modifications, and maintenance assistance. From fixing leaking roofs to building wheelchair ramps, the program ensures that seniors, veterans, and families can remain safely and comfortably in their homes. The funds raised through the Causeway CARes 5K will directly support these vital projects that keep community members secure and independent.

Meals on Wheels of Ocean County has long been a trusted resource for older adults, providing nutritious meals, friendly visits, and wellness checks to help seniors remain healthy and independent in their own homes. Each year, the organization delivers thousands of meals throughout the county, ensuring that no senior is left hungry or isolated. The donation from this year’s Causeway CARes 5K will help Meals on Wheels continue expanding its services and meet the growing needs of Ocean County’s senior population.

With this record-breaking milestone, Causeway CARes and the Causeway Family of Dealerships extend heartfelt thanks to the generous sponsors and supporters who made this possible, and to David C. Wintrode for once again matching the funds raised to double the community impact.

Even without a race this year, the Causeway CARes 5K proved that when a community comes together for a cause, everyone crosses the finish line.

Causeway CARes is proud to donate a vehicle to Scouting America – Jersey Shore Council, helping their team expand community outreach and programs for local youth. This vehicle comes with a meaningful history: it was previously part of the Meals on Wheels of Ocean County fleet, delivering meals to seniors across our community. When these delivery vehicles are retired, Meals on Wheels donates them to Causeway CARes. They are reconditioned ensuring each vehicle is mechanically ready for the road again, extending their impact serving the community in new and meaningful ways. This marks the 20th Donation by Meals on Wheels!

Scouting America is celebrating a generous gift which will enable them to expand their reach and strengthen programs across the Jersey Shore. With Causeway Ford’s donation of a truck, Scouts will now have greater capacity to transport camping and activity gear, deliver supplies to local units, and ensure youth have access to the full range of outdoor adventures and leadership opportunities the organization provides.

The new vehicle will also serve as a key resource in outreach efforts, helping remove barriers to participation and connecting more families with the Scouting experience.

“We are greatly appreciative of Causeway Ford’s donation of this truck to the camp,” said Wayne Tonnesen, Ranger at the Joseph A. Citta Scout Reservation. “Joe was very helpful throughout the entire process. We plan to build a flatbed on the back of the truck to transport gear to and from camp—something that is vital to our camping operations.”

“The Joseph A. Citta Scout Reservation is a big part of my grandfather’s legacy. I’m thrilled that Causeway CARes is donating a truck to support the camp, which continues to provide such a positive experience for young people,” said Kristin Farfalla, President of The Citta Foundation.

The Citta Scout Reservation, named in honor of Joseph Citta, continues to serve as a cornerstone for Scouting in the region. Providing opportunities for growth, leadership, and community for generations of youth.

Each year, Scouting America engages thousands of young men and women in programs that foster character development, leadership, outdoor education, and service to others. From camping and community projects to skill-building activities, Scouts gain confidence, responsibility, and a lifelong commitment to making a difference.

One upcoming opportunity for families to experience the spirit of Scouting is Operation Halloween, a community celebration hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Southern Ocean County in partnership with Scouting America’s Jersey Shore Council. The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, at the Joseph A. Citta Scout Reservation in Brookville, NJ.

Operation Halloween features Pumpkin Street, complete with a free hay maze, games, face painting, costumed characters, and pumpkin painting. Visitors will also enjoy food vendors, organizational displays, and other festive seasonal activities.

Scouting America welcomes all boys and girls ages five and up, offering families a chance to join an adventure that combines fun with personal growth.

The countdown is on for the 8th Annual Causeway CARes 5K, happening October 12, 2025 at Southern Regional High School. This community event brings runners, walkers, and supporters together for a morning of fitness, fun, and philanthropy. This year’s proceeds will benefit three incredible local organizations: Fulfill, Project Home Repair, and, new this year, Meals on Wheels of Ocean County.

Over the past seven years, the Causeway CARes 5K has raised more than $305,000 for local nonprofits. Last year alone, the event brought in $90,200, and our goal this year is to raise even more. With your participation and the generous support of our sponsors, we know it is possible.

This Year’s Beneficiaries

Fulfill
Fulfill is dedicated to ending hunger in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. In addition to providing food to over 300 local food pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters, they also run programs that connect people with resources such as SNAP benefits, affordable healthcare, and job training. Their mission goes beyond feeding people today. It is about building food security for tomorrow.

Project Home Repair
Project Home Repair is a collaborative effort that provides critical home repairs to senior, veteran, and vulnerable populations in Ocean County. This vital initiative ensures that residents can live safely and with dignity in their own homes. By addressing health and safety hazards like leaking roofs, faulty steps, or accessibility issues, Project Home Repair makes a tangible and immediate impact on the lives of those who need it most.

Meals on Wheels of Ocean County
Meals on Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals directly to the homes of seniors who cannot shop or prepare food on their own. Along with the meals, volunteers provide a friendly face and a daily wellness check, helping to combat isolation and ensure the health and safety of our older neighbors. Each year, Meals on Wheels of Ocean County serves thousands of seniors, making a life-changing impact in our community.
