We are happy to continue, due to overwhelming community response, with our 2020 campaign – “CauseWheels” Monthly Vehicle Donation Program – to help our neighbors and positively impact Ocean County. In 2019 Causeway had two requests for vehicle donations to local non-profit organizations. We were able to accommodate each of these requests. This prompted an idea to follow up 2019’s 50th Anniversary $10,000 Monthly Grant program.

We are proud to announce our February winner, Calvary Baptist Church in Little Egg Harbor!

In 1875, Jonathan Shinn and Charles Pharo helped start a Baptist church in West Creek. As the church’s membership, especially the children and youth group, grew, plans were made to expand. In 1958, Chet Holman offered the current property to the church. This allowed the church to be added onto, space for parking, space for a parsonage, and room for future expansion. In October of 1962, the chapel building was moved to its current location. The church’s name was then changed to Calvary Baptist Church.

​Property was purchased across Railroad Drive (formerly Prospect Ave) in 1987 and additional land acquired in 1988, some of which constitutes the parking lots.

The first hired Assistant (Youth) Pastor was in 1987. On August 22, 1987 ground-breaking was held for the building which holds the auditorium and the dedication service was held on April 23, 1989. On May 25, 2010 the church was presented with our plan for a new multi-purpose building, offices, classrooms, gymnasium, commercial kitchen, nurseries and foyer. Groundbreaking took place on September 9, 2012. The building was dedicated on July 27, 2014.

Calvary Baptist Church runs a food pantry that is powered by incredible volunteers who are members of the Church. The pantry started off as a small closet with a just a few donations and grew into the large room which it is today. Before COVID19 hit, the pantry was feeding approximately 200-250 people a month at the community meal, in addition to the weekly visits. They went from feeding 12 families a week, to between 70-100 families a week.

Before COVID19, the pantry was a place where families could go in and essentially “shop” for what items they need. Due to health and safety precautions, families in need drive up, pop their trunk for the volunteers to place pre-bagged groceries. The amount of food given should last the family through the week.

The Pantry is teamed up with FULFILL, formerly known as the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Fulfill delivers food to Calvary Baptist Church once a week. The amount donated from Fulfill provides each family with at least two or three day’s worth of food. The Church received a Grant from Fulfill for a walk in freezer, which they were in desperate need of with the growing number of people in need.

How will Calvary Baptist Church utilize this truck?

The food pantry receives large weekly food donations from several local grocery stores, (BJs and Wal-Mart). The truck will be a huge help in enabling them to pick up the donations and get them delivered to the food pantry on the day when all the volunteers are there to pack the bags and prepare the food for distribution!

Once again, we want to send out a HUGE thank you to our friends Meals on Wheels of Ocean County. Executive Director Jim Sigurdson has now donated SIX vehicles to Causeway. Jim knows we will find the perfect non-profit that will put each vehicle to good use.

Do I need to bring anything?

No, we only need you to fill out basic information as required by the county.

​Do I need to attend church to be able to use the Food Pantry?

No, there are no requirements for you to attend our church. The Food Pantry are open to everyone in need.

What Food do you have available?

We can not guarantee anything, but we typically have canned food items, soups, cereals, mac & cheese, peanut butter, jelly, fresh or frozen meats, milk, and eggs. We also typically have frozen food items from Wawa and Walmart.

Do you have other home necessities?

Depending on donations, we sometimes have toilet paper, soaps, shampoos and other toiletries.

Do you deliver?

No, we do not deliver. If you are unable to attend yourself, please fill out the form to designate an alternative person to pick up food on your behalf.

​Any other days/times?

No, our Food Pantry is only open on the days & times listed above. Additionally, the church office does not run the Food Pantry and can not open it to those who stop by during the week.

Where do you get the food and supplies from?

Our church family donates food items or give financially so that we can help our community. We are teamed up with FULFILL (Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean County) where we can get food for free or for very discounted prices to be able to provide it to those in need. We also receive weekly bakery donations from BJ’s in Manahawkin, fresh or frozen food from Walmart in LEH, and frozen meals from the Wawa on the corner of Frog Pond & Rt.539.

How can I help / donations?

For food donations, items must have legible valid expiration dates and can be donated when the Food Pantry is open, or before or after one of our services or events at the church. There are signs where items can be left in the main lobby.

Please DO NOT leave anything outside of our buildings.

We also DO NOT accept used toys, furniture, appliances, etc.
